Description

“Hybrid Forms" is a 4-week exploration and investigation of “poetry" and “not poetry”—in other words, an examination of where “poetry” stops and “hybrid writing” begins. Beginning with a look at acclaimed poet Maya Angelou, we will explore what exactly poetry is before pivoting to what hybrid writing is and how it’s different. We’ll discuss why form matters to our work and what we can achieve by twisting and adjusting genre expectations.

Students will have the opportunity to annotate and play with each form we cover through imitation exercises and group discussion.

If you’re ready to play with genre lines but don’t know where to start, this class is for you!
